Alamo Football Print E-mail

Alamo Football begins its 2010 campaign with a 23 game unbeaten streak!  Last season saw a 7-0-1 record with the tie coming to Martin at the USJ playday - when rules only allowed for 1 overtime period to settle a tie.  The Red Devils will see its first action of 2010 in the Crockett Co. Middle School Jamboree on August 12th.  The Red Devils will play in another Jamboree on September 13th at Gibson Co. High School.  There are 8 dates on the schedule that will be regular season games that are regulation time.  The J.V. team will have its largest schedule in program history with 6 dates.

Alamo lost 20 sixth grader from last season.  The Red Devils offensive lineup will look very different with the return of only one starter.  That starter returns to a backfield that lost 3 starters including Cotton Bowl Offensive MVP - Robert Rowe.  The entire offensive line, including both tight ends, also moved on to middle school.  The defense isn't in any better shape with 9 players leaving for the middle school, including Cotton Bowl Defensive MVP - Quinton White.  One starter returns to the defensive line and one in the defensive backfield.  Even with the loss of starters, many players returning had lots of playing time and should be able to fill spots vacated by last years starters.  Even with the new faces, things will not change as far as expectations.  "Our goal each year is to win one game at a time and hopefully when we get to the end of the season, we can look back and see that we won them all" said Coach Brooks Rawson.  "One of the biggest things our program has is consistency.  This will be my 4th year, Richie's (Lowery) 5th year and Brandon's (Chism) 2nd year.  Richie is an excellent line coach and that is where it all starts.  With a 2 year program, you will constantly have player turnover.  Having a stable coaching staff helps out tremendously.  Our expectations will always be to be fundamentally sound and to win ballgames" he continued.

Make plans to attend a Red Devil game this season.  The Red Devils host a huge day for 5th and 6th grade football on September 11th with a PlayDay.  Six games will take place at Alamo Field and 8 teams will be in town to  compete on this date.  Also, the season will end in the traditional Cotton Bowl at Cavalier Stadium on October 5th.
